What is the NFL grid game?
The NFL grid game is a daily football trivia puzzle. Every square sits where a row and a column meet, and you have to name one NFL player who satisfies both — a player who played for that franchise and went to that college.
It is part NFL quiz, part memory test. You get nine guesses for nine squares, so every wrong answer costs you a square. Each player can only be used once, which means the obvious names run out fast and you end up digging through a decade of rosters to guess the NFL player who connects two teams.
A new grid is published every day and everyone gets the same board, so you can compare your score with friends. If one a day isn't enough, unlimited mode deals you a fresh random grid whenever you want.

Grids are built from real NFL rosters going back to the 2016 season, so the answers are players who genuinely appeared for each franchise — not a hand-picked shortlist. All 32 teams can appear on the board:

How do you play the NFL grid game?▼
Name an NFL player for each of the nine squares. Every square combines the category in its row with the category in its column — usually an NFL franchise and a college — and your answer has to match both.
How many guesses do you get?▼
Nine guesses for nine squares. There is no penalty round: once you have used all nine, the grid is over and you can reveal the answers you missed.
Does the grid change every day?▼
Yes. A new daily grid is generated each day and every player sees the same board. Unlimited mode gives you an endless supply of random grids on top of the daily one.
Can I use the same player twice?▼
No. Each player can only be used once per grid, which is what makes the later squares difficult.
Which players count?▼
Any player who appeared on an NFL roster from the 2016 season onwards, matched against the franchises they played for and the college they attended.
Is the NFL grid game free?▼
Yes, it is completely free and there is no signup. You can play the daily grid and unlimited random grids in your browser.
Is this an NFL trivia game or a quiz?▼
Both, in a way. Like an NFL trivia game it tests how well you know rosters and college careers, but instead of multiple choice you have to recall the player yourself and place them on the right square.
How do you guess the NFL player for a team and college square?▼
Work out which players left that college and later appeared for that franchise. Journeymen are usually the easiest way in, because they turn up on more rosters than star players do.
