The new format, briefly
The Champions League runs a league phase: 36 teams, eight matches each against eight different opponents, one combined table. The top eight go straight to the round of 16; teams finishing 9th to 24th play a two-legged knockout play-off; 25th and below are eliminated entirely, with no drop into the Europa League.
Practically, that means far more matches — and far more of them mattering — than the old group stage. It's also why the DAZN-versus-TSN question is sharper than it used to be: there are simply more games that TSN cannot fit on linear channels.

European midweek matches are played in the evening on Central European Time, which puts them in the afternoon across Canada:
