How Leagues Cup 2026 works
Leagues Cup 2026 features 36 clubs: the 18 MLS clubs that reached the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs plus all 18 Liga MX clubs. In Phase One (August 4–13) every match is MLS vs Liga MX — each club plays three games, with 3 points for a win and a penalty shootout deciding a bonus point after draws. The top four clubs from each league's standings advance.
The knockout bracket is cross-league: MLS 1 seed vs Liga MX 4 seed, MLS 2 vs Liga MX 3, MLS 3 vs Liga MX 2 and MLS 4 vs Liga MX 1. Quarterfinals run August 25–27, semifinals September 1–2, and the third-place match and final are both on Sunday, September 6. For the first time, Phase One matches are also hosted in Mexico — by Toluca, Tigres and Club América.
